Ulysses S. Grant's Home Tour

While in Iowa, for Janelle's wedding, we decided to take a little trip over to Galena, Illinois.  It was the one thing that Caleb wanted to do when we were in that area of the country.  It is only a half hour from Dubuque so we made a quick little drive over there.  This was a treat for Caleb, being the Civil War buff that he is, to be able to tour Ulysses S. Grant's house.

It was actually a lot more interesting than I thought it would be! There was so much furniture that was originally in the house...and I love old things!  For instance, their dining room was brought all the way to the White House during his presidency (during the time in our country when the President needed to furnish his own wing of the White House out of his own salary.)

There were two things I wanted to do while on our trip.  First, show Caleb where I went to college (which is where the ceremony took place).  But the second was to walk the streets of Main St. in Galena.  It brought me back to my college days.  And it was so relaxing to walk the streets of an area that seemed to be built a hundred years ago.

It was a great day.  We will definitely want to go back when we visit Janelle and JJ.  And hopefully Caleb will be on a less restricted diet, because there were some really great restaurants that we would want to try! :)
