Fog

The last couple of mornings, I have loved seeing the leaves change color.  And as the temperature changes as well, it has been producing fog for me to admire on my morning drive to work.  Meaning, yesterday I remembered a dear friend of mine, Jan Geist, because of her love of fog.  So it inspired me this morning to find a little card some women from Jan's Bible study wrote up, and handed out, at her funeral after she died of cancer a handful of years back, explaining what Jan taught on fog.

"Fog, little droplets of water forming a fine mist.

Our friend Jan says fog is God's favorite weather.  When surrounded by a thick, soupy fog, you can only see a short distance ahead; time to walk slowly, not run.  It is in the fog of life that we learn to trust God to guide us.  Fog is no more than water in mist form.  In fog, you are fully enveloped in water.  And isn't Jesus the Living Water?  Yes.  When I am in a fog, or dilemma in life, Jesus is right there surrounding me, which forces me to trust Him for direction.  When the time is right, and I have learned what He wants me to learn, He clears the way so that I can see.  He uses fog for our own good, to grow us in the areas of faith and trust.  Jan knew well what it was like to live in foggy weather.  Living with cancer for many years, she began to look to Jesus, the Living Water in the fog, to guide her each step of the way.  She looked for the person He would bring into her path and listened for the message He would have her speak to each one.

Fog can be scary, but Jan learned the joy of abiding in Jesus, embracing the fog that most certainly is the Living Water."
